Biggest Takeaways From the New NFL Season

The NFL has officially kicked off and there was a lot to digest from week 1. I didn’t spend my entire Sunday on the couch vegging out, but I watched enough to gather some talking points. Here are some of the highs and lows.

Kickoffs in the NFL are a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. The new kickoff format which was introduced this year didn’t change a thing. I’d say 90% of them fly through the end zone for a touchback and give 0 excitement. However, there was 1 kickoff return for a touchdown over the weekend so the rare time there is the chance for a runback, things can happen. I’ll still continue to use the kickoff as an opportunity to go to the washroom because there’s a good chance I wont miss anything.

Tom Brady made his broadcasting debut and it wasn’t the worst. It’s like anything you do for the first time, there’s bound to be hiccups and he’ll get better with practice and reps. The guy won 7 Super Bowl rings so he knows football like the back of his hand and will smooth things out in the coming weeks. Even if he makes a few flubs along the way, he’ll enjoy his pay cheques. He signed a 10 year, $375 million contract with Fox.

The pace of play and athleticism is night and day compared to the CFL. I love watching the CFL and there are many differences, but when you compare the leagues, its not even close. The speed and plays made by the NFL players always leaves me in awe. The CFL is in the final sprint to the playoffs and the NFL is just getting fired up, but I’ll opt to watch an NFL game if they’re overlapping. It’s just more enticing and entertaining.
